Leslie & Bobby are from Portsmouth, RI and have been engaged since Memorial Day Weekend 2008. Here’s why Leslie thinks they should win the NBC10 Free Wedding Giveaway:
“Actually, I would like to propose that you follow our wedding story…..A match made via the internet. We already have a date set - Sept.11 2009 at the Glen Manor House in Portsmouth RI. A nice juxtaposition to your ‘pre-organized wedding at the Crowne Plaza’ where the public makes all the decisions. Ours would be a ‘real-world’ version.
We have an interesting story - been thru a lot of drama the past 2 years. Had a house fire Jan 1st 2006, became engaged to my on and off again ex-boyfriend one month later (Feb 14, 2006) - he caught me when I was completely in a whirlwind of events. Found out he was cheating on me emotionally via the internet in April 06 and he took off (leaving me with paying his $20,000 in bills) - which I am still paying off.
A contractor that was hired to rebuild my home took off with $67,000 of my insurance money having only completed partial work and leaving unpaid bills (now liens on my property)!!! I almost lost my home - couldn’t pay the bills and insurance money running out and not enough to finish rebuilding and assets frozen. News Channel 12 and the Providence Journal recently did a story on this.
My luck began to turn around when I ironically found my love on the internet thru Match.com. Bobby helped to keep me sane while I worked to get myself out of the mess and helped me along the way tremendously!
Now we have a wedding to figure out how to pay for - we want it real and from the heart with our 200 guests. Sponsors could ‘bid’ for their participation in the event and the public could watch as we go thru the year count down to our wedding. It will be a True Glimpse into Planning of a Wedding of a Local Couple Who Met on The Internet!“
