Laura & Eugene are from North Smithfield, RI and have been engaged since 12/31/06. Here is why Laura thinks they should win the NBC10 Free Wedding Giveaway:
“We are a couple who have been through a lot together despite our young age. I struggled a lot with health issues during college and Eugene would spend nights squeezed into my twin bed with me in my tiny dorm room just to comfort me. We have both suffered with the poor health of our grandparents, and Eugene who tragically lost his mother when he was 15 recently lost his maternal grandmother, leaving him with no motherly stories and memories of his childhood. I have not been close with my father since my parents divorced when I was young leaving me with no one to teach me how fix things or to chase away bad boyfriends. Luckily, Eugene has a great father and I have a great mother making both our families feel more complete.
Eugene has received a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering, a Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, and is now working hard to finish his PhD in Electrical Engineering with his thesis focusing on the field of Biomedical Engineering, all from URI. He has done all this while working to pay for each class so he would only have minimal debt when it was all over.
I have received an Associates Degree in General Studies from CCRI, a Bachelor’s Degree in Theatre with a focus on History and Literature from Roger Williams University, and a Master’s Degree in Theatre with a focus on History and Literature from State University of NY at Albany and I am now working towards a second Master’s Degree in Human Resources Management from URI. I was not as smart as Eugene was and I did not pay for school as I went leaving me with loans totaling just under $70,000. Having degrees in theatre made it a struggle for me to get into a true career path, which I have only recently achieved.
Eugene, in February, bought a house for us and now the changes in the real estate market have left us owing more on the house than we could sell it for. So, basically, if we don’t win a wedding, we will not be able to afford one for a very long time, and we deserve a change in our luck.“
