Vathsana & Juan are both from Johnston, RI. Vathsana tells the story of their engagement on February 15, 2007: We had to work on february 14th, so we didn’t have a valentine’s day, I was a little upset about it, but it couldn’t be helped. To make up for it, he planned a dinner for us the next day. I had an exam that day, but it was okay, I just wanted the day to go smoothly. I came home to find him, for the first time, with directions in his hand, how to make a knot in a tie. I found it romantic that he spent a hour, trying to make the perfect tie. He bought me a dress to wear that night and already that was the sweetest thing. He didn’t tell me where we were going but only we had to be there for a certain time. It was very windy that day, but he drove towards newport and we got lost, he got upset with himself and I said it was fine. It’s okay, as long as we get to where we need to get, it’ll be okay. He ended up at one of my favorite restaurant picks, Castle Hill Inn, we spent out 1st year anniversary at the same restaurant and here we were. He thought of it all himself. Before we knew it, we had a wonderful dinner, seated by the window. Just two other couples in the restaurant and waiting for dessert, he contemplated on giving me a valentine’s gift and I said, nah. So he said, we’ll I’ll just give you this card and some chocolates. I opened the card and it was a music cd card. I love all kinds of music, so I loved it. Then he gave me godiva chocolates and I thanked him. He told me to try a chocolate and I refused. After several attempts, he took the box and took out a piece of chocolate and told me to try this one, it’s suppose to be really good. I said no, again and he told me to “just try it”. So I took it, unwrap the heart shaped chocolate and the ring dropped out of the wrapper, at first I was speechless, I asked him what it was? He told me a ring, I was still confused. So I said, Promise ring? he said, no silly, an engagement ring. I want to know if you would want to spend the rest of your life with me and marry me. I was still speechless, shy like a little school girl, I nodded. I cried, it wasn’t over the top, it was just perfect. ...Perfect.
